Northern Flicker

Found this very cooperative bird just after sunrise. I've never been able to get this close to a flicker before, and am very happy with this one, especially the lighting.

50D, 500mm, Iso200, 1/200, F4 Cropped slightly.
LARGER version posted, too.

So nice when a previously unachievable species finally cooperates. I am not too sure about the broken stump on the left side, cropping it out might simplify things a little bit and avoid competition with the bird. I like the side view and diffuse lighting.

Nice!
The flickers here are very shy also.
I wonder if this fellow is hurt? Looks a little ragged, and that right leg is not in a natural position.
Nice light and pose, good BG, and I like the perch too. I might clean up the perch a bit - clone out the stuff on the bottom and possibly even the left side. Nice as is, but you might also experiment with different crops.

This is so sweet! I love the pastel colors in that background, the shot overall has such a wonderful feel to it. :toast:

Sharon, I know how hard it is to get close to this species...once in awhile I find a cooperative one...never figured out why....but great job getting close! I love the color and light on your subject and the soft pastel BG is excellent. My only (very small nit) is I might just crop off the left a bit...only because I find the broken branch doesn't really add anything to the shot and is a tiny bit distracting. But overall...fantastic!

Very nice Sharon. I have one in my yard and it is very evasive. I also like the perch! :toast:
