Cool bird! Terrific, intense stare from this guy. That tail certainly stands out.

I'm not a huge fan of the border though...

Very nice look at the hawk. That tail really stands out. I like the head turn and even with the dappled light you got the head in a nice spot. I have to agree with Terry on the border. It pulls me away from your subject.

One of the nicest perched RTH sohts I've seen thanks to the cool setting and the lighting which really shows off that tail

Very nice setting on the redtail. The larger image really shows off the images sharpness. Very nice indeed. :toast:

A very good photograph. The lighting, head turn and detail make this one great image.

Great pose, head turn and environment. And it definitively answers why the species got its name.

Love the bird Craig and that look at the namesake tail couldn't be better. Nothing in the setting/background bothers me, given the position of the bird in front of everything and the nice pose. Agree about the border though...

Craig,

Love the setting, how well the red tail stabds out, the great look at the aya and the head turn. Looks like the head almost glows because of the dappled light. The lichens add interest to the branches and the view of the plumage on the back does too. I like the comp you used but I feel the border does take away from the bird.
