Glowing Divide

A distant view of the Continental Divide fromt he top of the Great Sand Dunes Sunday morn. There was a blizzard the day/night before, that cleared out in the morning as the sun rose, with the first light hitting the distant La Garita Mountains.

Stan, for me the sky needs to be darker to let the sunlight on the mountains stand out more. I realize it may not be possible to have a darker sky as mono toned as it appears. Thanks for sharing.

I really like the layered lighting in this one, Stan. Good job! Ron :toast:

Love those golden mountains and I like the layering of the foreground as it goes from dark shade out to the sunlight. Bottom right is showing very dark on my monitor. I could see cropping 1/4-1/3 of the sky.

Wonderful golden glow Stan. The sky looks like a storm on the move. Shadow detail looks fine to me especially with the brillient moutains.

I like the contrast between the shadows and the sunlit mountains. I see just enough texture in the immediate foreground to make me want it a bit lighter so that I can tell what's there. The sky suggests that another storm is moving in.

Stan, i like this comp. I like the layered lighting in this one. Beuatiful light on the distant mountain range. If the sky were darker the mountain range would even stand out more. But it looks very natural as is

As said it feels very natural. To me with the lack of detail in the sky it really doesn't add much, and the image would probably show better as a pano. I'd crop out most of the sky and from below to around the V shape on the rocks left. Then bring up the shadows a bit and use a bit of dodge brush to get the white streaks on the rock face and the snow on the shadow side of the mid-ground to stand out more. FWIW

A remarkably unusual composition, strictly dividing in two halves with different characters. This works very well for me. The foreground adds a lot of cold and inhospitable feeling, contrasted by the warming light in the depth!
