Can you feel it ? It was raining heavily that afternoon, they were getting drenched out in the open. She is one-eye-blind and is raising 3 cubs. Saw her try 3 hunts (unsuccessful) that same day. :(

For my own reasons, I chose MF and a very slow SS to capture the heavy downpour, the hit ratio was pretty low, but eventually, I got a few frames that I had in mind.

Serengeti National Park, Tanzania, Feb 2011.

Please do see the larger version for slightly more clarity.

EOS 7D, 300mm, f/11, 1/20 SS,ISO 400, manual focus.

Regards,
Kiran :toast:

You've done a really good job of capturing the conditions. I really like this.

I can feel it Kiran! Really good choice to use a slow SS so that we can see the rain. Very nice.

the multiple misses were well worth this hit, nice job on the slow shutter speed, the rain brings out the saturation

Difficult to shoot in those conditions, but it makes for great and different photographs. Great scene.

Very nicely done, Kiran. I love the long exposure on the rain and the saturated colors. This will be perfect to my eye with a very slight crop off the left side.

I like the fact that you slowed down the shutter to make the rain really stand out and I would agree with Lon about a slight crop on the left but really an excellent shot as it, way to go, well done.

I really love the rain effect created with that super slow SS Kiran, very cool  . I do find the cats a bit too centered and would have like to see a bit of room above the trees on the left. These two compositional adjustments would perfect this IMO.

Hi Kiran,

Your thought and time in visualising and trying to get the shot just right really paid off, I can easily image this as a painting in a fine art gallery ... I guess that's what this is: Fine Art :^)

Much as I don't wish to be a repetitive Robin, seeing that others have noted the exact same thing, the second thought that immediately struck me - after "WOW! This is beautiful!!! - was that a sliver or two, or even three, off the left-hand side of the frame would make this shot perfect. Whatever the case, the whole thing is extremely well done :^)

Kind regards,

Ashley

Thank you, all, for your kind words and critique.

The only reason I left the subjects where they are in the frame is because of the dark trees in the background. Rain streaks show up nicely against them.

Thanks, again ! :toast:
