Hi all

As mentioned in my previous post in the ES&S gallery, I've been to Oman, putting an end to photographic inactivity, and inactivity on NPN. It's good to be back.

I wonder what you think about that shot here. Personally, I like it a lot - for me, it seems to capture the essence of how you feel in the desert. A tiny speck in a huge place under the glowing sun. Am I reading too much into my shot?

Nikon D300, 17-55/2.8 DX, handheld.

I like the textures and lines here Basil. The people really give the dunes a sense of scale. The light and color also work for me.

Sort of reminds me of the Star Wars Movie with the characters trekking across the desert. It does however give a good sense of scale. Well captured.

I don't think you are reading to much into the shot. I like the patterns in the sand and the people provide a sense of scale.

Mid day shots are hard to work. You did well capturing the 2 peeps. Otherwise it would be boring.

I do like this quite a lot Basil, so I don't think you're deluding yourself. The sense of vastness comes across very well. If it were mine though I might try cutting the brightness on just the dunes a bit and pushing the contrast as well to help accentuate those lovely flowing lines and ripples.

The scale which you add by the two people is essential for the impressive effect! I like the delicate lines in the foreground, that lead into the depth.

Thanks for all your comments! I'll have a look at darkening it further, but I've pushed the file quite a bit already (the light was extremely harsh). Thanks a lot!

Great softer tones and sense of scale. A very effective image.

Captures the feel of humans in the desert well. I would deepen the midtones to make the blue sky more rich.

I think this darker version is what some of you had in mind. Thing is, I'm pushing the (RAW) file fairly hard at this point, and some posterization becomes visible. So, I first opted for the less contrasty variant. But I agree, the additional sand pattern and blue of the sky are nice.

I like it a lot too Basil, great sense of space and scale. The contours in the dunes look great.

After seeing the repost Basil, I like it much better. It does accentuate the patterns in the sand.

The scale comparison works well. Esp with the people on the left clearly head UPhill. Nice gradations of texture on dunes.
