Taken from my hide out in the yard.

I was getting ready to take some shots of the youngster when the adult suddenly came into shot and I instinctively pressed the button.

Not the composition I'd have liked, I had the bird central with spare room to the left but cut off the adult's tail on the right doh!, it all happened so quick and with a top speed of just 2.5 frames per second I only got the one shot.

Sony A350
Sigma 50-500
1/320th
f8
ISO 400
280mm
-0.3 stop exposure compensation
Tripod.

Bummer about the tail, but still one to be proud of. I like the blurred wings of the adult.

My eye immediately focused on the action and I didn't even notice the end of the tail cut off. I think it is a fine image and would love to have it in my files. Great detail and focus with all the action and movement.

Geoffrey, I'll join the "clip the tail" club, I was doing that this morning wth Horned Larks. I love the interaction between the birds and that I can see light in both their eyes. Good action.

Hi Geoffrey,

Your reaction under is perhaps the most amazing thing to me; I can't begin to tell you about the countless moments I've lost coz' I couldn't keep my adrenaline rush under control - LOL ;^p

Seriously, excellent work, complete with sharp detail, eye contact, wonderful background, and plenty of narrative action as well; I like it a lot :^)

Cheers!
