Brown Falcon

Brown Falcon photographed near Winton Queensland a couple of years ago. I struggled with the composition here - what do you think? There is lots of canvas left and right.

Canon 40D, EF500 f/4 + 1.4x, beanbag from car window, ISO 400, f/10, 1/800, full frame vertical crop.

This falcon is really gorgeous, Simon. Great pech, god light, perfect exposure, nice detail. As far as the composition I do think it is well balanced.

I think this is about right. It's always hard when you find a bird in a horizontal pose on a vertical perch. Great light and detail

cheers

Hi Simon, this is a great image! Killer pose, sharp with fantastic detail. Here is a repost with a horizontal crop - what do you think?

Rather than saying what Mauro said, I will just echo his comments.

Very nice detail and sharpness on the larger version. I happen to like the vertical crop on this image and might crop a little off the top but no matter which way you present it, this is a fine image.

I like the comp. of the image. The perch and the background work well and I don't feel the bird is cramped in the frame. Very nice image. I think I like the crop of the first image better.

Simon, the comp you posted works very well for my tastes, its not too tight and the angle of the perch and the pose of the bird works. Lovely background, pose, sharpness & details. I wouldn't change anything about your post.

Simon, this is very nice as posted. Wonderful light and great detail with nice eye contact. I prefer the vertical post but might add just a little more on the left side. Well done!!

beautiful bird, Simon, and fantastic detail. I can see how it would be difficult to choose how to compose, but I like what you've done.

Simon,
As far as the composition the bird is not looking up or down so having him rather centered works really well for me. He also is looking to the right and I like that you have slightly more room on the right side. Composition looks really good to me. The details, colors, perch and exposure are spot on. Super image Simon. I see why you went back into the archives to save it.

Simon, the comp looks fine to me, handsome bird with excellent details, well done.

I'm not sure if Ofer had permission to repost your shot or not but as a reminder here on NPN you are supposed to get permission and email the finished product back to the posting person rather than reposting someone else's image yourself.
