Female Evening Grosbeak

Here's a female Evening Grosbeak to go with the males I've been posting, again, taken near my bird feeder. The females have interesting and intricate plumage, although much of it is hidden on a perched bird. Although the males are really stunning, I enjoy the females very much. On this shot, on the processed 1200 pixel version I was a little bothered by some odd looking lines in the scapulars where they come down to meet the wing coverts--I took a look at the 100% original and it shows exceptional detail there, but it does not translate well at this size.

The detail is very good to my eye. the perch and background work well. The only small nit would be to have the branch on the left not there, but that is a very small nit.

Interesting to see the difference in plumage from the male species, it almost looks like this bird was posing in the the spotlight for you. The OOF branch in the upper right is a little distracting but minor as my eyes went right for the bird to check out that good feather detail, way to go Brian.

Brain, she is a beautiful bird and I find her every bit as appealing as I do the males of this species. Love the light, pose, sharpness & details. Great light in her eye too. The branch behind her might have normally bothered me but in this case since it mimics the curve of her back it doesn't bother me. I might tone it down a little though.
