Frosted Tree

Hi everyone! I just got back from a trip to Banff National Park and decided to post some pictures. I took this picture while I was on a walk with my dad. We were taking pictures of water that had steam coming off of it, then when we looked up we saw this tree that had a bunch of snow on it, there was probably some ice on it too because of the steam rising to it then freezing. I really like this picture because of the way the snow is glowing on the branches and the sunrays highlighting the steam.

Any comments on how to improve this image would be appreciated!

Jenaya, I think this is absolutely fantastic the way it has been shot! Great light makes the photograph and the soft background only makes the details pop. And the diagonal light rays! This is a winner for sure, only suggestion I have is emphasize the rays in the in the upper right part of the image.

Wonderful detail and mood! The steam really makes the tree jump out. Very nicely done.

I really like the light and mood here Jenaya. I like the in-plane layers of tree, light, and background. Beautiful work.

Nice image and the larger photo really brings out the fine detail in the branches. The diagonal beams make for a great background too.

I like how you've isolated the tree both with the light and the DOF. The diagonal rays in the back are a great touch. :toast:

Jenaya - The mist and clouds in the background really make this image for me. I might have given the tree a little more breathing room around the edges, but there may have been other elements that would have detracted. Exposure looks great and I like the shallow DOF. :toast:

Jaye: There's really not much to say here. In my opinion, you simply and absolutely nailed this shot. The steam was so infrequently rising in this manner, and the sun was only there for a moment, but you got it.

Outstanding job on exposure, and excellent choice for depth of field and focus point. I honestly think you created the apex shot that could be had in this place at this time. If you keep doing that and get yourself into enough places enough times, well...I'm excited to see your portfolio grow! :)

Your very proud Dad,
