Okanagan vineyard winter

Here is a dark photograph taken about a month ago, and cropped to a pano. It was taken as dusk fell and I was racing to get the light as it faded over vineyards above Okanagan Lake in February. My camera was set on "stupid", my mistake, but here are the details; f/11, 1/3200, ISO 4000 (!)processed with a Dfine 2.0, thank goodness for that too. It all makes sense if you have a high ISO very fast shutter speed ( due to a huge streak of sunset brights in the shot)...and have not had much time to prepare whist thinking of grandchildren on a long drive to the Okanagan....anyway this was with the Canon 5D. Canon 24-105 @105. Comments and criticisms very greatly appreciated.

The foreground silhouettes and the starkness of the vines in the vineyard is very attractive. I'd like to see those in a larger version. However, the bright streak across the sky is too much. You might try to darken it, but my suspicion is that it is blown out in all three color channels. BTW, I've had some fabulous Gewurtztraminer wine from the Okanogan.

Kat,

I noticed this next to my pano and was struck by the surreal nature of it, given the eerie color. I like the way the fields are partially hidden behind the foreground trees. While I think that bright sky is a bit too bright, I think it also gives reason for the light. Perhaps paint over that area it with a 30% wash of very pale yellow.

Thank you Mark and Margo. Its probably blown yep. But then the photo was like my grandson, a complete accident.

I did try an wash here, but I am not convinced, its uneven and bleeding so its a bad job all round.

KatherineAnne, I should say that imho the original is better. Probably blown, but that's the part that attracts most my eyes. They keep moving in a sort of circular pattern from the dark trees on the foreground to the hills and clouds, to the incendiary sky and than back again. I like it, there is a strong pictorial quality to this image. I too would love to see a larger version. :wavey:
