Sal's Beach

I like the simplicity of this and would like to know if it works for others. The scene is misleading. It was a half mile walk on 2.5 feet of bulletproof snow covered by black ice to get to the water. Wearing crampons to get to the ocean was a new experience. The sky opened up as I got to the water - it had been totally overcast, with blowing snow, all morning.

The sky is wonderful, the clouds are too dramatic for me to think of the image as simplistic but I think it works well. IMO for simplicity you would need to crop it to a pano just below the first spot of open (blue) sky. Or, crop out the entire beach. As is, the almost manicured beach and the restlessness of the sky create a tension that is very effective but not really simple. I like it as is. Nicely done

I like that the 2 sky "holes" on the clouds are off center. The sky is clearly the subject here. I don't know why but my eyes keep coming back to the sand and sea section, instead of being only in the sky.

I like it. It looks like art to me. I especially like the big sky. 80 percent sky breaks all of the rules but that is what makes this work.
Nice.

A creative shot, you show us that breaking the rules may offer a really different aspect! My only suggestion might be a slower shutter speed to achieve a motion blur in the sea, which is a bit busy together with the pattern of the clouds. Anyway, I like your image a lot as it is!
