Kevin, I think a dark, gray day is the perfect type of day to photograph this bird. On a sunny day the white areas are too easy to blow, but in this image you can see a lot of detail in the whites. Also a lot of nice detail in the brown area. Very nice!

It almost takes a overcast day not to blowout the whites, at least for me. Nice job in getthing this and even at this smaller sized image the detail looks really good. I wish the merganser was heading toward you instead of away but you take what you can get, way to go.

Kevin, really nice detail here and a great view of the hood. Excellent handling of the whites and blacks. The water action and "bow wave" is a big plus.
Nice capture!

Whites look good as does the sharpness Kevin. A bit of a head turn with the bird swimming away like this would have been nice.

I concur with previous comments. I've never seen a merganser even though it's in my area in the winter. Very nice!

I like that he has his hood fully raised. The detail in the wing is nice and good handling of the black and white. Wish for a bit of a head turn.
