Rainbow Wall

While scrambling up a slope during a recent trip to North Coyote Buttes in northern Arizona, I came across this wall with bright bands of color in the sandstone. Taken at 10 AM on a sunny day.

Nikon D90, Nikon 1-35 f/4 @ f/11, 16mm, ISO 200, cpl.

I love these types of photos Doug with a variety of textures, patterns, and lines! This photo has nice balance and flow, but I'm a bit distracted by the dark URC. If there was a way to crop this out or if you have a different comp taken a bit to the right it would be even stronger in my opinion. Processing looks great on this too!

Very effective use of the natural lines in the rock, this works really well. You tamed the light pretty well I think.

This is nice, the converging lines are cool, but it doesnt grab me the way some of the ones you posted in the regional forum did. I agree with Jared about the urc. :wavey:

Very nice use of the diagonal lines in your comp, and the colors of the sandstone are very interesting. Ditto on the dark urc.

Thanks for the feedback on the URC. I was originally thinking it was a place/point for the leading lines. Here is a crop without the black hole. Improved?

As you can tell from the shadows, the light angle was glancing and the shot's colors would not have been possible without the use of the cpl.

Love the diagonal lines and perspective. New crop is better.

I like the crop. Great lines and tones here. The harsh lighting works ok here with the lines of shadow. I would like to see how this one works in BW

I love this Doug, great work. Talk about leading lines! I've found out the hard way that leading lines don't mean squat unless they lead to something interesting, and wow, look at that backdrop. I can see and agree with the comments about the upper corner to an extent, but I also think you lose too much balance by cropping as much as you have in the re-post. Instead, maybe bring up the brightness of that shadowed area to compensate for the heaviness?

Awesome depth of field and perspective Doug. The only drawback here is the light isn't the best. Excellent job at keeping it all together.

Well done, light balance is impressive for the scene. I really like the leading lines coupled with the rextures of the rock.
