Sorry I haven't been participating lately. Life got busy and the weather has been atrocious for photography. We had a decent day yesterday, but by the time I got out, it had clouded up. However, a very nice bonus just about equaled the cost of a 1DIV this spring, so I took the plunge. Given the high iso performance I thought I'd give it a try. I am very impressed with the autofocus, and it feels like it has a more natural aim to me than my 7D (not sure what that's about).

I liked the pose in this one.

1DMkIV, 500mm f4 + 1.4TC, Black Widow on Gitzo legs, f5.6, 1/800, iso 3200. Av mode, -1.0 compensation. Cropped from 17 to 7MP. Noise reduction using Neat Image, processed in CS4.

I always appreciate your comments and criticisms.

Thanks for looking,

Dennis, welcome back, was wondering what happened to ya. I could use a bonus like that, congradulations, but too bad it's not a Nikon. I like the pose too, and the great detail in the bird. I see noise in the background but at ISO-3200 that can be expected.

Dennis,

I love the pose! This bird appears to be puffing out his chest to say "Look at me". Congrats on getting so close.

congrats on the great bonus, Dennis! that high ISO performance should help in the conditions up there. a nice proud pose on a good perch. might try reducing brightness on the bg branches a little, especially the ones coming out of his head.

Nice capture and very well composed, Dennis! Perfect pose and perch. The vertical composition goes very well with the pose and the horizontal perch.

The whites on the top of the cheek seem a little hot. Rest of the image look very well exposed. I also notice some noise in the background in the larger version. Perhaps another round of noise reduction is called for?

With NR, ISO3200 is workable with this body. The bird looks good - wish the OOF twig wasn't there.

Big congrats on the new camera Dennis and welcome back. I like the proud pose but some of the whites do seem to be lacking in detail and I can also see some noise, but hey - ISO 3200! Amazing.

Congrats on the new purchase, Dennis. The MkIV is a real machine. I like the image, also.

Hi Dennis. I've been MIA myself so welcome back to you. I like this image as well as these little guys. My only nit is the oof branch in the bg comming out of his head. I have many of these yet I don't feel it's so bad that it's worth the trouble removing as I think that would be quite hard Sweet pose and little feet.

I'm really feeling left behind now since many folk on this forum have swapped their 7D for the Mk4. I don't blame you and good luck with it , you will find the benefit of using higher iso's a real bonus in poor light conditions. Graham
