Breathless

Here's a shot from last Fall in the Smokies. This is the Little River not far from Meigs Falls. My wife said it looked like a painting to her. It kinda reminds me of those 19th Century oil paintings of wild places in North America. It was getting quite late and the light was fading fast but the shot came out nice. There is a little wide-angle distortion on the edges but what can you do? Would love to hear what you think.

Canon 5D Mark II, 16-35mm f/2.8L @16mm, 1.3 sec at f/10, ISO 200, tripod, polarizer.

Those trees are incredible! Like a fairy tale. Particularly the ones in the gully in the upper middle/right part of the image. I wonder if there were some compositions that really focused on that part of the scene, as while I like the contrast of the yellows with the blues of the creek, compositionally I don't find the rocks as exciting. But I'm being quite picky by saying that!

I'm digging this! Definately has the painterly effect to it. Wonderful fall conditions too.

Beautiful view - I love the comp. Very balanced with just the right amount of intrigue. Just wonderful!

It's a beautiful photo. I wonder weather a perspective that allowed a greater percentage of the image to be filled by the lovely forest at the top would appeal to me even more. Obviously, it was necessary from this vantage to include enough stream below the pure whitewater at the narrow point.

Excellent Phillip. Nice composition, but I'm with Floris in that the trees are what make this shot for me. The colors and details are awesome. :toast:

Phillip,

This is a beautiful and dreamy autumn scene and very much like an oil painting as you described. All you need is a little grist mill and water wheel and you're all set! jk. Really though, this quite wonderful. No nits or suggestions.

Lovely fall colors and well composed with the stream flowing through the frame. Looks like the kind of place that offers myriad opportunities.

Definitely the light is right out of the Romanticists work. Gorgeous image! I like the contrast the rocks provide to the trees in both color and texture.

There seems to be a "glow" eminating from the top-center trees, which I think contributes to the mystical "oil painting" feel of the shot (combined with the darker foreground). This is definitely a keeper!
