Consolation Sunset

While visiting Acadia NP drove over to Bass Harbor Light to try and capture the lighthouse with a nice sunset. We were disappointed by how crowded it was when we arrived. Photographers were literally lined up shoulder to shoulder. Since I don't consider photography to be a contact sport, I turned my back to the sun/lighthouse and made the best of a bad situation. Therefore the title. I figured it wasn't a bad consolation prize.

Beautiful spot! Love the ethereal water and sunset colors!
The rocks seem a bit flat to me, so might benefit from added contrast and sat.
Nice!

I like this one Dan. It's very Maine with the spruce and the pink granite. I like the color palette you captured and the land, sea, and sky seem very complimentary. Very good composition as well. Acadia is one of my very favorite places but I really don't enjoy it very much during the summer.

A beautiful consolation prize indeed, Dan. Having been at Bass Harbor Light many times before sunset you have to get there very early and stake out your spot before the hoards arrive. The other side of the light has a great vantage point and far less people to deal with as does a visit at sunrise. You created a fantasic mood here with the combination of warm and cool colors and I love the ethereal effect of the water created with the slow SS.

Nice comp Dan!! I like the SS you used. Living in VT I've been to this spot many times at sunset and had to fight the crowds. I've now given up!! It's just too much for me. 10 years ago I had Acadia, what seemed like to myself. Now it's the hotbed of the eastern shore for photographers. The nice thing about that however, is I've met so many great people as well, and established some new friendships along the way. The Ian Plant's and Joe Rossbach's of the photo world. And Ed and Mike Lowe...what two better guys to have met!! Not bad company and all wonderful people. So all in all, it's still a great place. :toast:

Great mood and a wonderful place Dan. The long shutter really worked out nice here to create the mood, and the sunset sky looks great.

Hi Dan
I like the soft colours and mood here, and the silky water adds to that.
I do feel the composition is a bit heavy on the LHS - fair enough you were shooting over the ocean on the RHS so not much you could do...we all wish for weather to work for us, so in an ideal world I would have liked some more dramatic clouds on the RHS of the sky  :toast:

Thanks for the comments and critique. I did take a couple of different compositions from the same location. Also tried a vertical comp. I'll likely poke around with this one a bit more. If it looks interesting I'll repost. Thanks again.
