Egretta tricolor

Another Tri-colored Heron from Florida. I was really happy with this image because it shows the entire legs of the heron and I thought the light was nice.

Please view the large version for detail if possible.

1/1000, f8.0, ISO 200
7D, 500mm f4L IS +1.4 tc
57% of full frame (10.17 of 18 mp)

All comments and critique very appreciated.
Thank You.

Excellent color, love that red eye Matt.
Sharp details and great DOF. Like the comp and BG separation, the heron stands out in the frame nicely.
Well done! :toast:

Nice Matt, The comp is effective and pleasing, the details all solid as is the exposure. The parted bill is a plus. Interestingly I'm not seeing any breeding color in the lores or legs, but it is showing some nice growth in the breeding plumes along the back.

Really nice. This may be my favorite heron. You have captured the entire bird beautifully and I like the small water perch. Great detail in the eye. Comp is perfect.

nice pose, good soft light, and a very good comp, Matt. really like the light in the eye in the larger version. I'm not crazy about the line of bg mud that runs through the bird in the middle of the frame, but it's not a big deal.

What a wonderfully engaging image Matt! The colours throughout are superb and, in the larger version, the textures of those marvelously detailed feathers on the subject's back really makes this one come alive for me :^)

We're lucky to have a number of beautiful Heron species over here in Thailand, and yet I can't help feeling envious of you guys living in the West for having the Tri-Colored, which apparently isn't inclined to travel out this far ;^)

Great work, very well done and thanks for sharing :^)

A strong image IMO. Detail and sharpness look good and I really like the light. The open bill is pleasing also. I agree, it's nice to see the entire bird - inclulding feet. Well done Matt.
