Shooting with my friend Angela on Galveston Island this weekend and this Meadowlark was quickly spotted by Angela. Comments encouraged.

7D, 500 mm F/4L IS, F/7.1. 1/1600, ISO 400
No tripod, Shot from the car
Minimal processing, No crop, 6.2 m from subject

PS: After look at the large image on the NPN site, I must say the original image shows much more detail on my 27" iMac monitor.

Nice detail/sharpness. Contrast/brightness is a bit on the high side.

The large image shows as 342KB so you could have gone with a little less compression to retail even more detail, but I don't see any reason for concern as posted.

Awesome image Dottie. Great color and Detail. Sharpness is spot on. Might consider cleaning up the "poop-deck".

Beautiful bird, great color. The detail looks good to me based on the size limit for posting. A favorite bird of mine, but I find them very hard to approach. :toast:

Nice and clean Dottie, Maybe a bit heavy on contrast, but a minor nit. well done.

Congrats capturing one of these guys sitting still, Dottie. I think the detail looks really good in the larger post. I agree with Richard and Rick, maybe a touch less contrast. Very nice image as posted.

Dottie, I'm looking at my RAW images of this bird and the contrast is the same. I believe you have represented it well.

Thanks for the confirmation Angela. I considered commenting myself that I did not increase the contrast, and that the original RAW image is exactly as viewed on NPN. Thanks for your comment.

Nice detail , pose, and colors!
I agree about a bit less contrast.
The bird poop also might be cloned out!

Excellent detail, Dottie. Nice job on the exposure in what looks like fairly harsh light.

Dottie, I like your FF comp - plenty tight but I often like them slightly tight for the detail. You've shown the lovely plumage patterns of this species well. The poop doesn't bother me enough to clone it out.
