A neat idea for a shot. I like the pattern in the leaves. It would be nice if all of the foreground leaves were sharp, but that can be difficult, especially since a smaller aperture would sharpen the bg as well. Good job.

Dan:
Lovely shapes and lighting here. Good bg separation. No suggestion.

Nice! Perfect DOF choice, for my taste. The BG os perfectly OOF.
Is this a fern special to NZ, or ? Not sure what the title means..

Thanks for the comments, folks. Took this photo with a couple of different apertures and this was the best balance of detailed foreground and smooth BG.

Sandy I don't know whether this fern is unique to NZ. The title is in reference to the fact that ferns are symbolized on all sorts of stuff down there. We were expecting kiwi symbols everywhere but actually the fern was even more widespread. It's also on the uniforms of their professional rugby team (that they are very proud of).

Such graceful curves. Is that the iconic silver tree fern? Either way, your image is beautiful, with just the right DOF.

Nice light and great form Dan. I like the mirroring of the shape in the BG.

Thanks for the comments.

Wayne, this is definately NOT the iconic silver tree fern. We saw plenty of them but they are massive. I also have photos of them but this is your garden variety fern growing in the forest under the tree cover.

Beautifully done Dan. I might consider cloning out the black line in the upper left but it's certainly no big deal. The presentation here is superb.
