Mojave Crossing

Taken during a recent trip to the Mojave National Preserve. A large storm was just clearing out of California, and the play of shadows across the landscape was pretty dramatic. I was on Cedar Canyon Road, about 3 miles above its intersection with the Kelso-Cima Road, when I saw this freight train crossing the desert, chugging toward Barstow. Converted the original in Nik SEP twice, using high structure on one copy and high stucture + blue filter on another, then blended them in PS4.

Canon EOS 5D Mk2; 1/200 @ f/6.3; 70mm; ISO 100; 70-200 f/2.8L; tripod.

I like your layers of textures and tones as well as the light on the train and the dramatic clouds. This certainly translate the expanse very well.

The image shows the expanse of the desert. The graininess does not work very well for me.

I like the various layers of elements here Craig. I especially like the contrast in the sky.

I find the sky and the foreground very attractive. I find the mid-ground a bit too dark, maybe it's because I worked for the railroad, paying my way through college, I'd like for the train to be easier to see and recognize.
