Canyon Candle Flame

In Upper Antelope Canyon near Page, Arizona, I liked the way the light moving around the canyon walls appeared like a flickering candle flame in this image. The brilliant red and orange striped sandstone framed by dark shadows here was one of the more unique photos I took from a tour into the canyon a few years ago. Makes me want to go back to canyon country soon. This image and more available on my blog (linked to the icon below). All C&C appreciated of course.

Awesome! I love it! I can definitely see the flame motif coming through. Fantastic take on this place.

Very pretty image Joshua. I like the somewhat abstract nature of this. Love the curves and textures too.

Cool framing of the warm golden tones Joshua. You don't see too many silhouetted shadows in these canyon shots.

Love the mood you have created here. The extreme contrast works well, as does the combination of shapes, sweeping curves and textures. I would love to get such a unique and personalized capture out of Antelope.

Very nice, Joshua. I love the hard contrast and the fire-like colors of the rocks.

Man, it's nice to see a more unique image from this place, and you got one. As Steve noted, you hardly see any dark shadows from here, and you used them to great effect. Well done!

I see the flame, and it looks great, Joshua. I really like the shadows framing the light here. Very unique, and well done.

Neat abstract here, Joshua. I opened this up without first reading your title or description. But as I looked at it long enough I thought..."hmmm that looks like a flame". Then I read your title and the description.

Ordinarilly I would be inclined to suggest that the shadow areas are too dark. However, knowing your intent this works as presented as a much more abstract shot. The flame effect is cool and does translate to the viewer even without the description.

Josh, great eye on this comp. Wonderful work, it surely does look like a flame caught in time.

I love the quality of light and colour here...curves add a lot of dynamics to the composition while the dark edges frame the focal point nicely
