Thanks Ken!
Sandy, I feel I am more aware of gators than most on this forum. Its about knowing animals. The gators you have to fear are the ones used to humans, females around nests, and big males around breeding season. This was none of the above.

Pual,
That shows off one of my favorite techniques. . . click on live view and extend your arms out. Always a nice feature on particularly difficult subjects like this one that may not react well!

Neat shot Paul. I too have spent my life around gators and other wild critters and agree that it's all about knowing the behavior of the animals you're dealing with. That said, I 've had a few close calls on a couple of occasions when I thought I knew them better than I actually did. I believe that's called EXPERIENCE . I'm older and slower now, and show them a bit more respect than I did in my younger, faster days. Might be a good idea to buy a nice Kevlar lens cover .

Yum, yum, a 16-35 and 5DM2 main course and Paul as dessert! The alligator looks like he is licking his lips or is he just smiling for the camera?

Are you rocking the Vibram 5 fingers or is that just muddy feet? My wife would kill me if she saw me doing this. Nice shot!

Paul, you say you know all about gators, well I have been out in the glades for over 50 years and have been around more gators than most people will ever see in a lifetime and all that I can say is that there is NO excuse for the stupidity that you are exhibiting in your photo. I have seen them snap out of the mud and grab a passing raccoon as well as taking a shot at a person including me as I was passing thru. All you are doing is tempting some idiot into trying to duplicate what you are doing in your shot and he may not be as lucky as you. We are all entitled into our opinions and sorry but this is mine.
