Carpodacus mexicanus

I was messing around in the backyard yesterday, getting used to a new tripod and captured this House Finch in some nice evening light. A very common bird, but I really enjoy watching them. Slightly desaturated in Raw conversion.

1/320, f5.6, ISO 200
7D, 500mm f4L IS + 1.4 tc
61% of full frame.

All comments and critique very appreciated.
Thank You.

Common or not, this is a very nice shot of a handsome bird. I like the pose with the slight head turn and the great catch light. Very nice complimentary BG - thanks for sharing.

Matt,
Terrific evening light. Even the branch has some pink tones in it. Perfect head turn, nice feather detail, catchlight in the eye and a very complimentary background. :toast:

Very nice image quality; excellent detail. Nice light. I'd work on the brightness of the branch to tone it down a bit.

A beautiful subject and wonderfully lit Matt, the angle of the head allowing for that catchlight is perfect :^)

really nice, Matt. good light, detail and comp, with a nice bg. I think Rich has a good idea about toning down the perch a little.

Very nice image of this species Matt, with great light setting off its color nicely. I would also agree about trying to tone the perch down a bit. Still a nice image all around.

Excellent capture Matt, great lighting and detail. I might have stopped down a touch to try and get more of the perch in focus but that's very minor and this is lovely as posted. :toast:

Nice pleasing image. Love the perch and BG, and there is nothing to detract from the well exposed House Finch. Excellent image Matt.

This is really nice Matt... great light and pose, and the slight head turn back toward you is ideal in my book. Great compostion as well.
