Yellow-eyed Junco

by KC Choo

Gallery: AvianPosted April 9, 2011110 views13 comments
Charlie and I are sort of wandering around Arizona, and in the gloom, wind, rain and cold this morning, just before the fog rolled in, we found three of these beautiful Juncos in the Mt.Lemmon area.

1D MkIV, 500mm, 1/500 @ f5.0, ISO2000, tripod.

Thanks for looking at this Lifer of mine; C & C welcome

Nice image. He looks like he is standing at attention. Intense stare in those perfectly sharp eyes. Like the tiny vantage point he has chosen.

sweet, KC. love the little perch and the great low angle on this ground-dweller.

I just read a recent article summarizing genetic research that suggests all of our various races of Dark-eyed Junco have diverged from this species incredibly quickly--all since the end of the Pleistocene.

Very nice. The low angle works well here. Impressive with the weather we had in AZ yesterday.

I was wondering just recently how I could get a ground shot of the Juncos we have. This one works very well. A nice pose and perch, and the dof is perfect IMO.

What a handsome little character, love the slate-grey colours of it feathers, the pin-sharp beak and the wonderfully contrasting yellow of it's eye. The detail, composition and angle of view is about as pleasing as I could ever hope for, lovely image Kwan, thanks for sharing :^)
