Killdeer in ice

In the Yakima Valley a sure sign of spring is the beginning of Orchard frost control. There is some rather spectacular ice both on the trees and on the grass under the trees. I was surprised to find this killdeer fairly closeby (I did have to crop the photo somewhat, however.)

You've done a good job of capturing the bird. The raised trailing foot is very nice. The out-of-focus foreground is very distracting and you've placed the bird dead center. Shifting it to the right would improve the composition by giving the viewer a sense that there's space for it to keep running.

I like the focus on the killdeer but I am wishing for a bit more detail in the foreground. The ice show must be amazing.
