Interesting challenge. I was asked by the zoo director to come and photograph the introduction of a new female sea lion into the exhibit which held an older female. It took place at 8:30 in the morning, the sky was very overcast, low light, even a drop of rain. The light in the exhibit area was dark, the sea lions were dark, from previous experience I knew they would suck up light like a sponge, and the action would be very fast. Also, I was restricted to the outside of the exhibit and could not go into the exhibit for more eye level shots. On top of all this the bright sun light for the previous couple of days caused an algae bloom, turning the water a light green. The new female came from a rehab facility in California.

This is about a 50% crop.

With all of the conditions that you describe I would say that you did a good job capturing the animals. They look sharp and the color is good.

I agree, really good job, and the behavior that you captured here is right on the spot.

I'm all too familiar with the challenges that come with photographing at the zoo ;^) All things considered, I think you did a great job with this one John :^)
