This is part of a series of cows & calves. I've done all of them in this style (for which I have no name). Critique of style, subject, technique always welcome.

The series can be seen here: http://lphotodesigns.com/cattlecountry/.

I barely uploaded the gallery - I'm wondering if I should include captions, or if the photos are worth 1,000 words

All photos taken on an extremely bright day on a local ranch during this spring's calving season. Black cows - bright sun, so I got under- and over-exposures. I processed the files in Lightroom first, and then in some combination of HDR Efex Pro, Silver Efex Pro and Photoshop--then back to Lightroom for finishing touches!

D300, 70-300mm zoom lense, mostly at f/8.
Thanks in advance for your comments!

Nice use of exposure. Love the expression on the cow as sort of the forever indulgent mother. Just a suggestion of fence and soft edges work well.

I think the style you've adopted is a nice way to deal with the harsh lighting you ran into. The style also complements the rough and tumble environment of range cattle.

I like this very much Linnet. A creative way to take advantage of harsh midday lighting.
