Canon EOS REBEL T2i
EF-S55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS
4/17/2011 – 6:16:13 PM
1/50 sec
Manual
f/9
ISO 400
Focal length 232 mm
Handheld
My backyard in Northeast Florida
Raw file processed in PSE9

With f/9 and this background I felt that I needed to quite a bit in postprocessing to make the background be more in the background, so I made contrast changes and lighting changes to try to do that. I do think that the background adds to the image, but your feedback on that and anything else would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The flower and damsel fly are great. the color in the damsel and the focus is very good. The background is a bit distracting to me. I might not be to someone else. I took just a second of looking at the image to see the damsel. If it were mine I might try cropping some more off the top.

I love these critters. Good focus on the damselfly and you caught him in a nice pose. I agree more cropping could have been done. I would have probably done a hard crop to have the damselfly and flower he is on almost filling the frame.

Thank you, Richard and Carolyn. Looking at this again, I definitely want to try a tighter crop. I'll do that and do a repost later today. Thank you!

I can see where a tight crop would really focus on the dragonfly, but I like this version because of the repetition that the oof flower in the upper right provides. It creates more of a sense of place than a tight crop will.

I like this one. The colors are great and the dof makes the bg not too distracting for me. Myattention went right to the damsel.

I think the background is just right - the details are soft and beautiful, and provide a lovely sense of place without being distracting. The colors are gorgeous, and I personally really like the roomy composition. The image feels fresh and open.
