Sad Story.....

I haven't posted in quite a long time, but after seeing Cheryl's story about the death of this eaglet, I thought I'd post this one. I was in the Tierra Verde area for a couple of weeks in early March. This eaglet was flapping and exercising it's wings preparing to fly. I thought by this time it would have been out of the nest and doing well. A lot of people, both local and visitors, were emotionally invested in this nest. We'd stop by every day and watch for a few hours hoping that one of the adults would bring back a fish, or just come in to land. I was sad to hear that the eaglet had died. I hope that this pair will nest in the same place next year, and again be successful with a better long term outcome.

Nice to have them all looking the same way and I like the framing of the nest provided by the branches.

Jerry, it is a sad story. I also hope they return next year, with better luck. Nice shot of the group.

Jerry,

I watched this eaglet grow up because so many of my friends in that area would send me daily pictures of it chronicling its hatching until its death. Even though I wasn't there to "see" this bird growiing it broke my heart when my friends wrote and told me it had died. I loved watching the nest in 2009 and would stop there each time I went to Fort De Soto. Thanks for sharing this family portrait.

This image stopped my heart as I recognized the nest immediately and again I feel that sadness. A great family portrait Jerry . Thanks for posting it.
