This is a Red-shouldered Ctenucha Moth on an Iris. The backyard is a great place for macro photography.

Great colors and environment, Robert. This is one I haven't seen here and I'm not that far from Astoria. Those feathery antenae would look great in a larger version. Backyard is where almost all my shooting takes place.

A wonderful image. The moth is so sharp and detailed and the iris is the perfect color to show him off. The dew drops on his abdomen are an exceptionally nice element.

Whoa! The bright red really draws the eye, and the curve of the flower is a wonderful framing element! I love the incredible details in the antennae - and the water droplets add a really nice bit of interest. Gorgeous shot, Robert!

Nice detail, the bug seems to be on the ugly species classification to me tough :)

Thanks for the comments, folks. Charlie, I am not sure exactly where you are from. These moths are not real widespread in my experience, but are very common on the lower west side of the coast range. I think I am kind of at the northern end of their territory. I don't think I have seen them where your Erythronium is found, but look for them during the latter half of summer. Luis: I looked for years for an identification on this species. There is one on the East Coast of the U.S. that is very similar but obviously not the same. I finally stumbled into an i.d. on a poster at the local gardening nursery.

Very cool and great contrast. Love the water droplets that are sharp on top and softer below.
