Did you hear that?!
by Luke Ormand
The title is in reference to what made this kit wake up from its nap and stand so alert. About 50 yards away up a small hill some deer were running around and making a lot of noise (including their infamous snorting noise). The kit of course stood up ready to dive in the den if danger was on its way. The fox seemed to look at me (well, my lens which was all that was showing) to see if I heard it too.
This is the last kit I'm posting for the next 10 days or so . . . on Thursday I'm headed to sunny and warm Florida where I hope to have success shooting warblers, nesting birds and maybe some 4-legged creatures like tree frogs and gators. Unfortunately photography is not the main reason for going down there. . . but will play an important role! This was taken right as the clouds and fog were starting to role in, so not the perfect lighting but plenty soft.
Yesterday while I was photographing these kits I kept in mind some things that were in the comments on my previous post - particularly regarding DOF. I think I did much better because of those comments, so thank you. I photographed them again today (had 3 of the 4 out) but the lighting was atrocious so not nearly as many keepers. I also discovered there secondary den which is in a much more wooded area and it seems they venture there around 6:45 every night. I hope to photograph that location too but may need to don some serious camo!

I might sharpen the head a tad more for web presentation on the 720px version :)
Best of luck in Florida and looking forward to seeing two and four-legged captures of anything interesting you come across down there upon your return :^)
Well done. Love the alert pose and the catchlights in the eyes.
Well done
Andrew
Great picture of a wonderful Long Island Fox.
