Bull Elk, RMNP

RMNP, Moraine Park

This beautiful bull elk was bedded down in the grass for a couple of hours, late in the afternoon. He finally got up and started getting interested in some cows that were in the area. The lighting was good and then he walked towards us, putting the stream in the background. He just started bugling when I hit the shutter. I tried to back up as much as I could as I feel the shot got a little tight and centered, but I like the shot anyway. Appreciate any comments.

the creek on the RHS is also a nice touch

Nice looking bull. The light is nice and the comp looks good to me. Also nice pose.

fantastic Mark - great light, sharpness and pose. I would consider cropping off the right for a 4x5 so he's looking into a little more of the frame.

This is an excellent shot of a majestic bull. As mentioned earlier, you might give him a little more frame to be looking into, but I'm not one to talk. Given the chance I probably would have put him in the same place. Just 4 more months and these boys will start to crank it up again!

There are enough diagonals in the river edges and the bugling pose that I am not overly disturbed by the central placement of the bull. The light is warm and inviting and you have clean detail. My only wish (beyond your control) would have been for the bull to provide a less sleepy-looking eye. In a perfect world...
