Lenticulars Over Tuffas

My wife and I have been going to Mono Lake the last couple weekends. On this particular day I was hoping to reshoot something from last year but with the windy conditions that wasn't possible. So I walked around south tuffa looking for something different. Don't know if this is "different" but I think it works. This was late afternoon lighting striking the tuffa and if you've shot here you know how bright those things can be. I'd be interested in any thoughts you might like to share about this.

I'm such a big lenticular fan I wish there was some separation between the tufa and the cloud. However with your low P.O.V. and the tall tufa this may have been impossible. You got good tonal range from the foreground to the sky, and it's a well done conversion. Leaves me wanting more though, but that's a personal preference.

I like the balance of the comp on this and those clouds add great texture to the sky. I agree with Paul, and would like a little more separation in the tufas, as they seem to kind of blend with the FG and BG a little too much. Would a color version help the tufas stand out a little more against a blue sky?

thanks for sharing your thoughts guys! the clouds/tuffa touching don't bother me so much but perhaps it's the tones of the tuffa which gives me pause regarding this image.

@Jared: I don't think the color version would help much with this one.

Good composition, esp the way that eerie cloud is slightly off-centered.

Awesome shot. I really like this in bnw and think you did nicely showing off the textures of the tufa against the smooth clouds.
