Mature Tulips

The end of tulip season arrives...with a thud. Never did get up to Skagit Valley, instead a short visit to nearby nursery provided this shot. Taken in late afternoon sun.

Zeiss 100mm, macro with polarizer on Nikon D300

This was tough finding the right f-stop...and dof. This is more mid-range, neither sharp throughout nor overly blurred. I applied some noise reduction to smooth some 'tulip' age spots trying to create a more new-born look than over-the-hill.

Incredible colors, i really like how the image lets us create the scene outside of the frame in our minds.
Great work!

Beautiful !
Lovely mix of colours. Liked the 'scattered look' of the light.
The top half of the frame could probably make another image on its own.

Your choice of dof works well. There's enough sharpness in the grape hyacinths so that they fit in and are not distracting, but the attention is on the tulips. The lighting on the tulips against the backdrop of green leaves helps keep the attention where you want it.

Love the colors, the comp and the clarity in the image Ken. Nothing wrong with the light either. Beautiful image.

Many congrats on the EP, Ken !! It really is great handling of the dof and a wonderfully composed, multi-coloured image.

Don't know how I missed this the first time around Ken, awesome. You're processing really shines on this one and I like the somewhat layered composition.
Congrats on the WP! :toast:
