Canyon Oasis

I just returned from a week of shooting in the Gorge, followed by my workshop. It was huge success, I'm already excited for next year!

This image was a real treat to create. The s-curve in the water is completely natural and caused by the weeping canyon wall. Some dodging and burning to accentuate the effect.

3 image blend:

One exposure for the canyon ISO 200 f/16, 0.4 sec.
One exposure for the water 1SO 200, f/16 30 sec. with Vari-ND filter
One exposure for the tree in the upper right to deal with the wind ISO 1600 f/16, 1/25 sec.

Thanks in advance for any C & C's!

The depth of this shot is beautiful. It really makes me want to walk right into the scene. I do wish there was a hair more image at the bottom, but I'm sure there is a compositional reason why you chose to exclude that (perhaps a distracting element). I just love the color of the water, and the sense of flow.

A very impressive image that captures the essence of this beautiful gorge. The narrow view shows off the depth, but does leave me wishing I could see a little more of the water.

Nice mix of exposures to create the image despite the varaibles nature threw at you. It seems the days of waiting for perfectly still conditions to freeze flower or tree movement are behind us with the use of exposure blending. And with high quality high iso images, the compositional boundries have been expanded greatly. Still, the light needs to be right, and it looks pretty darn good in this canyon. Sweet shot Justin. :toast:

Yep that represents the Gorge very well! :toast:

I too would like to see a hair more at the bottom and a touch of detail on the black shadows.

Nice image making me miss home. I too have a tour here in about 5 weeks and can't wait to rock it! I have been gone from the 503 for a very long time!
