Red Gulch Lightning

The lighting is actually in the Bighorns, but was taken from the Red Gulch area, western foothills. Need to spend some more time out here this year.

Different than my usual stuff...but I like this one for some reason.

Any critiques are appreciated. Thank you.

The sky makes this image, awesome stuff. I could see a pano crop of this too, as there isn't a whole lot going on in the FG here. Nice work. :toast:

Wow, what are these clouds?? Agree with Zack, the sky makes this shot! Very powerful, especially with the lightening. Can we see a pano version?

I would like to see some more detail in the fg to decide if I would prefer it cropped out or not. If cropped, can you pull out any more detail in the bighorns? Nice catch on the lightning!

Great mammatus clouds. Cut 3/4 of the ground, keep the hills, would make a great pano. The clouds make this a winner, and lightning. Also, I would try and open up some of the detail in the hills on the right, similar to the central hills.

Wicked sky! I love it. My crop suggestion would have been for just a tad off the bottom, but i also prefer your repost to the original. :wavey:

Lots of drama - love the sky. The terrain appears a little dark for my tastes - I might consider lightening that 1/2 to 3/4 stop.

Very dramatic sky here, Nicolaus. Those clouds are simply amazing. I like the B&W processing here. I'm not sure about the foreground here, though. I would be tempted to crop a little from the bottom leaving just enough of the landscape to anchor the image. This would place more emphasis on that incredible sky.

EDIT: I posted my comment before scrolling down so I just saw the repost. I would leave more sky and trim still more foreground so that the ratio of sky to land is somewhere between 2/3 and 3/4 if that makes sense. But that's just my preference.
