Eastern Towhee

I went out looking for Warblers today and met up with a nice flock of Eastern Towhees. It was only in the last two years that I had ever seen one. I really like their song and they are generally pretty bold around humans. I have been waiting to get a fairly clean shot and I am happy with this one. I left my 600mm behind and went for a different setup so I could cover some more ground and do some bushwacking. The crop is a bit centered, but I didn't have much to play with unless I did some cloning and added canvass. I didn't want to go there.

Canon 1D Mk4
Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS USM II + 2x TC
ISO 400, 1/125th @ f/16 (this was a mistake from a previous shot)
Av Mode, Eval +1
LR 3.3 and PSE9, crop/curves/sharpen/cloned a branch out

It looks excellent to me Bryan, great eye contact, nice light on the face and your F16 made for an interesting bg, nice that it was far enough away not to be busy. :toast:

Bryan, your techs on this are really sweet and I am a sucker for the red eyes of the Towhee! I echo your self critique on the comp and don't have too many suggestions on it...this is a touch one because of the tail. Did you try it as a pano so at least it doesn't feel so square? I think that would help offset the center feel of it....at least might be worth a look that way.
