Summer Tanager @ Sunset

A closeup of the First Year Spring Summer Tanager I posted last week.
F/8, 1/200th, ISO 640, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x with natural sunset light around 7:00pm.
I was very close, near my inside focusing range. I had two options here, a square or 8:10 format. Cropped at both ends only..

Never seen one of these - the detail and colors are gorgeous and the green background makes it pop. You must have been quite pleased with this.

Terrific look at this interesting plumage. Techs are spot-on. I'd personally prefer a little more room and would like to see a verwsion with a bit of the ends from the crop restored.

Nicely handled exposure between dark and light orange. Tight but sharp crop. Interesting bird. Are these rare?

A bit tight for me, but what a shot of a beautiful bird.

This is an 8 x 10 for the uptight crowd
I went with the square to avoid cloning branches out in that extra space..Guess I'm just lazy that way

Really nice, Howard, especially the re-post. You handled the reddish-range wonderfully, and the detail is terrific. A trace more DOF would have been nice, to pull the right toes into focus, but looks like you were running out of room.

Very nice clean shot with nothing distracting. I've not managed capturing an image as nice as this one. I like the diagonal angle of the perch. The Tanager is very sharp. Nice job.

Gorgeous, Howard. Beautiful colors in the bird. Nice complimentary background really sets off the bird. And that eye...so crystal clear. Well done.

Fantastic colours Howard, although I'm afraid I fall in with the "up-tight" crowd ;^) I think I'd much prefer the landscape format creating more space around the subject and with those time-consuming branches cloned out. Nevertheless, the subject is wonderfully detailed and a pleasure to behold :^)

The repost is my fav. That little bit of extra room allows me to stand back and take the bird in comfortably. Great work on detail and color, and I like the simple bg here, Howard.

Wow, beautiful colors and detail on the larger version, wonderful job handling the bright colors, it would of been nice to have a little more room top and bottom for me but but a minor item overall, this is an excellent shot, way to go.
