Burden Falls

Burden Falls is south of Carbondale, IL in the Shawnee Hills National Forest. It's one of my favorite places in Illinois so I have taken dozens of pictures there. This scene appealed to me because the spring foliage was advanced enough to give life without obscuring the falls.

The "as shot" white balance temperature was 4100 which made the water quite blue. I warmed it up to 4650 to give the scene a sunnier feeling. The "as shot" balance on this body seems to be thrown off by a polarizer which I almost certainly used here. Your thoughts?

Nikon D700; Nikkor 24-85 @30; 1/8s @f/13, -1.00, ISO 100, polarizer, tripod

Comments and criticisms always welcome.

There's a lot of detail between you and the falls in this shot but I personally like it and think it shows off the character of the woodland as well. Nicely done.

David, it's great to see a shot from Burden Falls here! That is one of my favorite places. This is a different view of the falls from what is normally seen and you handled the light very well. I have been doing a lot of work here and in the surrounding areas - Bell Smith Springs, Jackson Falls, Double Branch Hole, Jackson Hole, Cedar Falls.. there is so much in that area. I hope to see more from you from the Shawnee.

I like this one quite a bit. A complex scene, lots of details and lines, but logically made. The fresh greens of spring are particularly appealing.

Very nice work David. Capturing these deep forest waterfall shots is always a bit tricky but this has quite a nice balance to it and you're warmer WB looks just right.

Complex scene, but with still enough elements that separate to make it quite interesting. The slightly hidden falls is quite nice.
