Crow Foot Mountain shrouded in clouds overlooking Bow Lake.

Canon 5DM2
Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L at 150mm
ISO100 1/60sec f/16
SR Color Combo Polarizer
Silver Efex 2 B&W conversion

As always, thanks for looking and for any comments and critiques.

I felt inspired by some of the wonderful B&W work I have seen here lately on NPN, especially that of Stuart Williams, Cory Freeman, Morkel Erasmus, Jesse Estes, Youssef Ismail, and Sean Bagshaw so thought I would post a B&W from the Canadian Rockies for a change of pace in my work.

eva - happy that we've given you some inspiration! there has been some very good b&w work posted of late. i like this - it reminds me of the work of John Alfano: sharp and atmospheric. the diagonals work to balance the comp as well. nice stuff.

Nice conversion, and an even nicer composition IMHO.

Eva,

Nice change of pace. The BW brings out the brooding moodiness of the image well.

I'll echo what Scott said and glad to provide some inspiration. I like this as well. Some tech comments: on the larger version I'm seeing a couple things you might want to address before making a print. Looks like the selection between sky and rock needs to be cleaned up a bit,- or maybe it's just a sharpening halo I'm seeing? Also If the noise/grain in the sky and rock isn't intentional you may need to adjust your processing slightly to avoid that from happening. But I'm thinking you added this intentionally so if so no worries then. ;) Keep up the good work and showing the b&w!

Eva - I like the detail and abstract nature of this one. The diagonal work for me. Some dust spots evident in the larger version in the left sky that you may want to address. Otherwise a nicely detailed image.

A great moment captured here Eva! :toast:

The only critique would be that your mountain edge is haloing a little in some areas and sky is a bit over sharp.

Love the strong diagonal of your composition, Eva, but even more so the incredible tones and textures you achieved in the rock and those clouds. Wonderful range of tones throughout. Extraordinary b/w image.

Quite a striking B&W. The textures are particularly wonderful and the composition works quite well.

I cleaned up the dust spots. I always miss some. Went back to LR and eliminated any Clarity adjustment. I think that is usually the root cause of the over sharpened look. Then back to CS5 for some minor adjustments with TK's layers, conversion to B&W with Nik Silver Efex Pro2. Also noticed with SE, if you use film type, it simulates that films grain. I also removed that option. Hope this is a bit better.

Thanks everyone for your comments and critiques. Thanks most of all for looking.

Maybe it's just me, but the tops of the mountains almost seem to be floating with the clouds. It's a neat effect. Second version even better.

Very nice b/w image Eva. The repost looks great. I really like those clouds wrapping around the mountain.
