Gray Catbird

A visit to the Great Swamp NWR in New Jersey offered up this Catbird. The bird perched upon a fairly busy branch so I decided to included more rather than less to the comp in an attempt to show habitat.

Hi Charles,

Nice pose an head turn. A bit more dof to gain a little more focus on the top-left branches would have maybe improved it a bit but thats just a minor nit!

I'm glad you could make it over to the Swamp. This is a very nice image with pleasing color and a nicely balanced composition.

Yes the extra branches make it, and the pose too - my favourite. Back on with a head turn. Great.

Chuck, I would be happy to get any image of this species. We have tons of them around, but they stay in the thickest bushes they can find. At least they do that when I am around. Nice comp with nice light and head turn. BG is nice too.

Sweet setting. A crop on the right would improve it IMO.

The BG color fo this shot really adds a lot and makes the Catbird just fly off the page! I also like the branches and habitat.

Love your looser crop - the habitat is well-demonstrated here.
Great pose, showing the back/tail/wings well.
Looks as if you had plenty of light, so a greater DOF might have been chosen - but just lovely as is.

I like this a lot Chuck. Colors and composition are especially strong. Nice light on the bird and I like the head turn.

Great details, BG, color, and I like the subdued soft lighting here Charles.
Nicely balanced comp too.. this is a case where more is decidedly better.
Well done! :toast:

Chuck,
Wonderful job of capturing such an elusive bird. You can hear them, but often not seen.
Great work!!
