Colorado Monet

by Stephen Weaver

Gallery: LandscapePosted May 21, 2011148 views5 comments
Image made at Rifle Falls State Park, Colorado. The new Spring foliage in soft-overcast light provided an image in the style of a Monet painting. The subtle softness is intentional.

Nikon D700, Nikor 70-200 AFS VR f/2.8
RAW processed in LR and CS5

Hmmm, i like the idea here Steve, and its a close call but it doesnt quite come together for me. The balance feels off with the yellow tree at the 1/4 point from right, and cropping isnt an option since i think you need the curved dark branch on the left to control the chaos here, if that makes any sense. Its pretty though. How are the falls looking?

Hell, just googled Monet paintings and this is pretty close subject, contrast, and composition wise. Seems like you got what you were aiming for. Good work achieving the desired effect.

I like the fine textures, soft colors and overall intricate feel of the woods here. But it needs some sort of leading line or compositional direction to take me from one area to the next.

Beautiful soft color, and I love the dark branches. My only concern if the brighter green tree in the FG, but I don't have any suggestions for it.

I love the left side of the image, Great colors and accentuating lines, but the cutoff yellow tree unbalances the composition for me.
