Changing of the Guard

Thursday I was at Bolsa Chica, lots of skimmer activity but totally overcast. One of the photographers said there were baby Avocets so I went a checked it out. There were about four pairs with a couple chicks each and one pair setting on eggs. I went back yesterday because the light was good until about 8:30 a.m. I got some great images but I wanted to post this one so I can say I posted a younger one than Sandy R. I captured these two changing who would set on the eggs. They would do this about every 40 minutes.
Cropped to 40% of full frame.

Comments are appreciated.

A great photo. The DOF. focus and composition are excellent as far as I am concerned. Not only that, but the image tells a story.

A nice look at the "nest" of this pair Harry. I like that both of the birds are in similar positions. I might include a bit less of the FG and crop down from the top to eliminate the bluish line of "whatever it is" as it would make for a more unified presentation IMO. Just a couple of suggestions.

LOL!~
I have never seen a nest, let alone eggs. I think those are just rocks you put there on purpose.
Seriously - a wonderful image and I'm sure looking forward to more from your series.
Really nice detail and nice environment. I was thinkibriefly that a larger crop would be nice, but in retrospect, I like this
just as it is.

Really cool behavioral image here. Nice colors and soft light. I does look like it could hold up to a tighter crop and make it a bit more intimate-like the moment itself.

Nice shot. Quasi mirror image of both birds (except for size) works well. Agree with crop at top, would also help subjects look less centered.
