Backlit Lotus (w/repost)

This is a Angel Wing lotus taken with Canon 7D, using 100-400 IS lens. The backlighting made it stand out from the other shots taken that day last summer.

Comments always welcomed.

Love the lines and the light Pat. The black bg is perfect for it. I like the suggestion of the wave in the leaves but I'd also consider a crop mostly from the left to a 5:4 or square format. I like the image very much as posted and the crop would be a different image - I'd just like to see more of the incredibly beautiful flower. Superb whites in this, especially given the back lighting.

A nice image.
I think I would try it cropped a little tighter on the flower but no big deal.

The back lighting is great. I like the composition, it's somewhat unconventional, but it balances attention between the flower and the leaves.

Wonderful photo and I agree that cropping some of the leaf to the left might make improvement. These choices are so personal.

I liked the whole scene, but I seem to be outnumbered re cropping this... so here is a crop. Let me know your thoughts.

Very nice Patricia. I like your idea with this composition. It works well for me with this backlight.
Now I see the crop version. It works very well too. I guess you have two nice versions now. Overall I like your original a bit better.

Beautiful view of this flower; the backlighting makes it shine. I like your comp as is; the leaves add to the interest IMO. Great shot!

The contrasting light sets this off wonderfully. I also like your pov and comp. Great backlit shot.

Patricia:
What a handsome lotus and the backlight brings out the subtle texture on the petals. I think the re-post is stronger.

Haven't been out to my local lotus ponds yet but hopefully will venture out soon.

The back lighting really makes this white flower pop. The white is handled very well and the comp. is nice.

Gorgeous shot Patricia! Cropped version wins hands down in my opinion.

I did not comment on this previously because, while beautiful, I could not decide between the the versions. Sorry, but I still can't. I like them equally.

Beautiful photo of a beautiful flower. Patricia, what do you think about a vertical frame?
Take care.

Patricia: My apologies for being so late to the party on this one. I like both versions but I am partial to the repost. Superb whites! >=))>
