Gravel Ghosts

This was taken in Death Valley during a year when the blossoms were more profuse than in the previous 50 years. It was shot with an old FujiPix S5000, f5, 1/340. I welcome any comments.

Lucy,

With the back lighting they have a spectral appearance, very well rendered and a nice diagonal. It also shows their natural environment which I like.

The blossoms look interesting as does the texture of the rocks. Your POV helps to see where the flowers are growing. However, I would have liked a closer look at the flowers that still included the ledge and rock textures. Perhaps a hard crop on the left side to left of the yellow clump and a slight crop on the other sides may work? Just a suggestion. Great find, Lucy.

I love the mood of this Lucy, in large part I think because of the light but the textural contrast is also very nice. My only reservation is the oof (at least on my MacBook) area in the viewer's upper right. Even so, it's no big deal. I might be tempted to crop this to pano. You'd elimintate the oof area and if you cropped a little from the bottom to it would better emphasize the vegetation and the band of light but still give you the textural and subject contrasts. Regardless, this is very appealing as posted.

Lucy, This makes me want to see these guys closeup. Interesting diagonal and nice texture. The light on the rock wall helps draw the eye up toward the subject. Only thing I might suggest would be to clone out the bunch of blossoms in the background so it doesn't draw the eye away from the main subject.

Cheers,

Carol

Great find and a lovely image, Lucy. I like the perspective and the setting - there's a nice sense of the power of life to bloom in a desert.

Thank you all for the feedback. I'll try a few of the crops as suggested and see what happens. Death Valley is an extraordinary place.
