Bright Clouds/Dark Land

The clouds were the only things that seemed to be catching any sunlight. I liked their contrast with the dark land below them. Thanks for looking.

I really like the clouds here, but I find myself wishing the trees were not cropped off, Nancy. I think this could use a little increase in contrast also. Just suggestions of course.

Nancy, this is a very eye-catching photo, even from the thumbnail. I really like these kinds of shots with powerful storm clouds gliding over the land. Definitely agree with your comment about the contrast.

Before I even noticed Ed's comment, I thought that I would like to see a little more room at the bottom. Also, more contrast in the sky far towards the horizon would benefit the image. Making the streaks falling from the clouds stand out more would forge a connection between the storm clouds and the land, providing even more visual interest to the viewer.

Striking image Nancy, thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys. I went back and upped the contrast a little. Not a lot I could do about the composition errors but I think this helped.

Those are very interesting clouds, especially with the bright ones in the front, the many layers, and the virga. I've never tried it, but an abstract treatment with only sky and clouds might also be interesting. Looks like a clear sunny day on this side of the Absorokas, hope that's made it to your side also.

Nancy,

Wow, those clouds are awesome! And however you captured or processed them to show off the pure white against the darker, stormier clouds is terrific.

While I understand the comments about the tree tops being cut off, what it shows me anyway is that clearly the sky and clouds is what attracted you (kinda obvious) and that you didn't try and get the whole landscape in. Sure, perhaps you could have zoomed, moved around or whatever to perhaps get just a cloudscape, but I think this works. I just love the purity of the clouds here.

No trouble capturing light here....
