Rudbeckia-June Challenge

The petals on this Rudbeckia were just starting to unfold on this hot, 90 degree day. After cropping the image, I used Selective Color-Greens to tone down the greens in the background. Then I applied a texture overlay called "Grab Bag-1" from Shadowhouse Creations, set the blending mode to Hard Light with an Opacity of 82%.

This was definitely challenging since I use other plug-ins quite a bit. It's interesting how you don't realize all the tools you use to accomplish a certain look. A good exercise to take us back to the roots of one program.

Camera is a Nikon D7000, auto focus and no tripod. Your comments are always greatly appreciated.

Wow I really like this Barbara. Keep them coming, who needs plug-ins? Beautiful work :toast:

Thanks David. When I first read your challenge I thought, oh no, can I achieve the look I want without plug-ins? I guess so. Thanks for allowing us to use the texture overlays. I really like that look for my images. I tried to combine two images of leaves and stems but wasn't happy, but I'll keep pursing that thought as I think it could make for an interesting image.

I look forward to seeing how others step up to this challenge.

I like the angle you took on this flower, and the treatment really fits the flower well!

I like the comp and the treatment. I especially like the way the flowers looks with the bg.

This is really appealing to me, and from studying your work I'm getting more used to the idea of texture on top of the subject. It looks great here.
