Low Tide Anemone

This image was not actually taken with a macro lens (I don't even own one yet). Instead, I used the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens (+ EF 2x III Extender) mounted on the 5D Mark II with my tri-pod placed about 4 feet away from the anemone. 0.6 sec at f/8.0, ISO 100, 400mm.

This was taken on the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve (near Moss Beach, CA) on March 5, 2011. Click here for a Google Map and Panoramio image of the precise location ;-)

I would love to learn more about macro-photography, so comments, critiques and suggestions are of course more than welcome!

Cheers!

Those bright colors really make this beautiful creature stand out in your photo. I like the soft light and the beautiful details. The composition is nice as well.

Greg: Terrific subject and a solid comp. With this capture I would keep the same 6:4 ratio and just crop it a bit tighter. A smaller point is the relatively bright rocks in the lower right part of the frame. The larger one especially tends to draw the eye. Cloning/painting the same pinkish color onto the white areas would soften its impact. Welcome to NPN. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.>=))>

Thanks very much for the comments!

Bill, those are excellent points! I'm going to do exactly just that. Crop the image a bit tighter and especially work on those bright rocks/shells in the lower right corner!
