Should anybody tell you that these animals are rare send them to Kaziringa, they are to say the least [plntiful, and very well protected by the park staff.

Taken in Kaziringa National Park, Assam, India, 9th April 2011

EOS 1D MkIV

500mm F4 IS hand-held from vehicle

Powerful guy, very natural colors, love the greenery which Kaziranga offers, DOF looks spot on. I would love to see less space on bottom and more on top which would show a bit more scape.

Once again fantastic image :toast:

I wouldn't want to meet up with him in the wild. Cool image.

Looks menacing. Were you tempted to get out of the vehicle to catch a shot on the fly?
The armor plate on the shoulders and upper leg make it look invincible.

Marvelous shot Ken :^) I'd love to see Asian Rhinos in the wild; closest I've come was in Sabah, Borneo with Sumatran Rhinos, but wasn't actually able to see any, as they were on a rehabilitation site in a mating programme and no one but the rangers and medical team were allowed in :^(

Hope this next comment doesn't encroach on the "no politics to be discussed" rule, but I have to say I hate the fact that so many species over here in Asia have been decimated in the name of traditional Chinese medicine and the like for nothing more than human greed based on superstitious beliefs. If moderators feel this paragraph is inappropriate, please accept my apologies and feel free to edit or delete.

Ken, thanks for sharing this beauty of a photo :^)

Thanks to all for your comments, Kaziringa is indeed a shining example of what can be done with enlightened and dedicated staff, I only hope that this dedication is passed on to some of the Tiger reserves

It would be remiss of me if I did not mention that one of the guards was killed by a startled Rhino whilst we were there.

nice pose from this impressive guy Ken

I would comment on the grasses that protrude in front of him, but you and I both know how it goes when in the field amongst the foliage  (though perhaps, moving the vehicle to the left would have taken that long double-bladed golden grass on the body out of play).

Perhaps try a slight crop bottom to where the green foliage begins and from the top to remove the blotches of sky, making it a panorama-crop? Would be interested in how that looks.
