So Cool

This is a repost. Posted some days back in Photo Art as I was not sure it was allowed in the macro department with all the postprocessing involved. At that time I called it "dead as a doornail" as this is how I found it. Maybe that is not so cool and is definitely not my common practise. I prefer insects in action. But in Microphotography it is of course common practise and I undestand why they are so fond of focus stacking.

I did a new stack with the same 16 images in Zerene in stead of CS5.
Further I adjusted the colors more to my liking and did a full retouch of the image.
Just to increase the "Coolness" of this beautiful Horse-fly.

Herb

Simply "AMAZING" I'd be interested to know what your set up was and settings used.

Sweet! I don't see anything wrong with photographing a dead bug - though I'm glad you didn't kill him. I think you nailed the shot and the post processing as well. Very well done.

Simply WOW!!! Your title says it all.... "Soo Cool"!

I love the dark vignetting and the detail of those eyes is just stunning! This makes me really want to go out and get a good macro lens! I'm going to go check out your comments in the Photo Art gallery to learn more about this "focus stacking" technique and how you processed the image! Beautiful shot! Thanks for posting!

I just like to show you here a JPG resized to 720 pixels from the RAW image without any processing except for cropping. This is frame 8 of 16 that just shows sharpness on the front of the eyes.
And many thanks for all your kind comments!

Focus stacking is definitely the way to go in this type of macro photography. Very cool looking...man, those eyes!
